Many couples turn to Northern Virginia because wedding venues can allow for bigger weddings and on-site guest accommodations. There are many reasons why you would choose Northern Virginia over a Washington DC wedding.

First, the cost. Many Northern Virginia Wedding venues are more affordable than DC wedding venues, above all if you are planning a wedding for 200 guests.

Secondly, accessibility. Your venue in Northern Virginia will be an hour or less from DC or the two airports that connect the city to the world. If you have relatives and friends traveling to your wedding, Dulles is well-located in Reston, close to several Northern Virginia venues!

Third, the backdrop is beautiful. Whether you choose a vineyard or a farm, Northern Virginia offers so many gorgeous landscapes for a romantic pre-wedding session. Truly - they all are. It depends on what you are looking for. Do you want something very elegant or more relaxed? Start with your budget and go from there. I have 25+ favorite wedding venues that you can check out if you want to start somewhere!

Most of my couples who are choosing to plan their wedding in Northern Virginia are looking for space and nature. The venues in DC that are affordable and big are very limited so most couples look at Northern Virginia to find something that is more in line with what they want: a venue that can welcome 200 guests without spending more than 50k the venue alone. The venues in Northern Virginia can give you much more than a good price point: if you are a wine lover, you will find the perfect place in this area! Many venues offer magnificent backdrops for you and your guests.

I do think it’s easier to find a venue that feels like you in NOVA. Barns, farms, vineyards, outdoor venues of any kind, you have so many choices!

When couples choose to plan their wedding in Northern Virginia, it has to do with the lovely background that the state has to offer. So many landscapes are the perfect backdrop for your wedding reception. The best locations with a view of the Mountains are in Northern Virginia, like the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests.

I love to go to the sweet Virginia town of Alexandria. My favorite place to get pre-wedding photos is by the Potomac River and the Torpedo Factory where artists meet art lovers. I love to take the roads of Northern Virginia to drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway and discover the amazing Appalachian mountains.

When I’m not heading north, I drive to Virginia Beach and the Chesapeake Bay! Beach Wedding photography is by far one of the best ways to capture contemporary images. The best locations are located in Virginia Beach or around Norfolk or Newport News.
