Vendor Spotlight: Honey & Lavender Event

As anyone who has planned a wedding knows, wedding planning can be stressful! There are so many vendors to coordinate with and details to keep track of that it can be easy to feel overwhelmed. That’s where having a wedding planner can help! Having someone in your corner who helps you with all the wedding planning logistics can be an invaluable resource and one that is well worth the investment!

I wanted to start a blog series where I share my favorite wedding vendors that I’ve worked with over the years to help provide you with resources whom I love and trust. This week on the vendor spotlight is Maya from Honey and Lavender Events.

I met Maya for the first time in 2021 when we were both working a wedding at the DC War Memorial. My clients talked to me about her before I met her, and raved about how she helped them so much with the wedding planning so needless to say I was already looking forward to meeting her! Maya and I met online a few weeks before the wedding, during our couple’s pre-wedding consultation. I loved getting to talk about the photography timeline as Maya listened and helped with suggestions along the way. Maya’s approach to weddings is to help both the vendors and the couple during the planning process so we can all go in the same direction. From a photographer's point of view, I so appreciate how Maya asked my opinion every time they were considering changing something in the schedule that could affect the photography coverage. I felt like I could count on her and work with her as a team, which is so precious. To me, she really felt like a friend right away, and I now understand why my couple loved working with her. She rocked the wedding from the beginning to the end and was such a joy to work with also!

From Maya

Why/How did you get started?

Since I was young, I have always loved planning, hosting, and coordinating events. It is something that has always been a constant in my life from a child to a teenager, to a young adult, to an adult, and beyond! Even when I hadn't started Honey & Lavender Events, all my previous jobs and commitments had event planning associated with it - usually initiated by me. I started Honey & Lavender Events as a side hustle in 2017 and decided to take it full time July of 2020 (yes - in the middle of a pandemic) and haven't looked back. I have been incredibly fortunate to have had so much success with event opportunities during a pandemic, which has allowed me to even hire team members to make this dream of mine a reality.

What do you love most about Event Planning?

I love everything about my job - meeting all kinds of interesting people (clients, colleagues, and vendors), all the organizing and coordinating of details and schedules, and the creative latitude I am given at times is glorious.

What is one piece of advice you would give to a new client?

Take a breath. Everything will get done and will be your vision of perfect. Once you've hired your planner know that you're in for a wild, fun, and collaborative time!

I am so excited for you all to learn more about Maya and if you are looking for a wedding planner in Washington D.C., check out Honey & Lavender Events for all your planning needs!
