Best Locations To Elope In Washington DC
As an elopement photographer in Washington DC, I have my favorite locations when it comes to planning an elopement. Here are some places to check out if you are still looking for the perfect backdrop for your ceremony.
DC War Memorial
This is one of the favorite spots of many couples. The National Mall is a great place to get married. You cannot be more DC than that. In this blog post, I give you all the info you need to plan your elopement or small ceremony at the DC war memorial.
The marble rotunda makes for a beautiful setting, is precipitation-friendly, and is only steps away from the rest of the Mall for post-ceremony photos. White marble columns, ample trees, and open grassy space make it feel open and private, even in the middle of everything.
West Lawn of the Jefferson Memorial
Again, the National Mall is a great place to have your wedding ceremony. The Jefferson Memorial is another location that is “wow” to say '“I do” to each other. This can be very meaningful if you met in DC and you want to add one of the symbols of the city in your wedding photos. Actually, along the Tidal Basin near East Basin Drive, this location can have up to 200 guests according to the NPS. Read my post: Planning a Wedding at the Jefferson Memorial
Ceremonies are permitted for two hours, including setup and cleanup! So your ceremony needs to be a quick and cute affair! The equipment may include chairs, a table (not exceeding 4'x4') a chuppahs or a wedding arch, a battery-powered generator, and a battery-operated sound system kept to a reasonable volume so as to not disturb visitors at the nearby memorials. You can even have up to two acoustic musicians.
Roof Terrace at the Kennedy Center
I love the Kennedy center for photoshoot. During the day or at night, this location offers so many possibilities! Their roof terrace has the perfect backdrop for your elopement. If you’re thinking in having a small dinner with some friends and family members, their dinning room can host up to 40 people (all the details here).
The floor to ceiling windows make the lighting absolutely gorgeous and I love to create very unique photographs with an incredible light. Best part of dinning in a restaurant? The food is delicious! Note that weddings are hosted at the Kennedy Center during the months of July at August only at this time.
The National Arboretum
With its vast grounds and varied landscapes, the National Arboretum provides a tranquil setting for an elopement. The Bonsai Museum and the iconic Capitol columns are among the highlights.
Union Station
No permit needed for this premiere location in Washington DC! Union Station is a great plan B in case of rain as well. But this place can get crowded so it’s best to avoid rush hour and schedule the session early in the day on weekend and between 10am and 2pm during the week. This is one of my favorites place in DC because of the beautiful architecture: it offers unlimited possibilities for your photoshoot!
Meridian Hill Park
